This pilot study will explore the climate adaptation and resilience of serial climate migrants within Bangladesh. What effect does climate change play in the various steps of serial migration and how do various stressors interact? Ours will be one of the first to connect climate change to multiple points along the internal migrant journey. A serial migration lens will highlight the multiple shocks, vulnerabilities, and corresponding resilience and adaptability of these groups. This working group will especially focus on psychosocial resilience which is just beginning to be studied in the context of climate adaptation (Cisse et al. 2023). The working group will conduct qualitative interviews with migrants at several points along the internal migration journey, including the Sundarbans along the coast, larger coastal towns, and the large cities of Chittagong and Dhaka. This interdisciplinary team has extensive experience conducting qualitative research with marginalized communities in Bangladesh and beyond.
